Our Story
Rental Works Arlington was founded on April 20, 1987 by Kip Vaile with the unwavering support of his wife Gay and several close friends. What began as a local tool, equipment, and event rental store in Arlington, Virginia quickly grew into a trusted resource for contractors, DIYers, homeowners, tradespeople, and anyone planning a special event. From the beginning, Kip built Rental Works on a simple goal: treat every customer fairly, offer quality products, and provide dependable, honest service. Over the years, that goal has remained at the heart of everything we do.

More Than a Rental Store
For Kip, Rental Works was never just about tools and equipment—it was about people. He created a learning space: for him, for his employees—and most importantly—his customers. It became a place where not only customers could get advice, learn new skills, and feel confident tackling their projects, but that Kip and his employees could also learn from their customers. Many of those customers have become lifelong friends—forming the strong community that still defines Rental Works today.

A Commitment To People
For Kip, he also was deeply invested in his employees. Rental Works has always been a place to learn the value of hard work, develop customer service skills, and gain experience. He fostered an environment where employees felt supported and valued: a place to celebrate successes, encourage growth, and build lasting relationships. For many, including Kip’s three sons and their friends, Rental Works was more than a job—it was a foundation for life.

Continuing The Legacy
In 2026, Kip stepped back to retire, entrusting Rental Works to his oldest son Josh to carry forward his dad’s vision. You will still see Kip around the shop occasionally: giving advice, answering phones, or fixing a tool that nobody else can. Today, Josh continues to operate Rental Works from the same Arlington location it has called home since 1987. While leadership has passed to a new generation, the mission remains unchanged: to serve our community with integrity, care, and a commitment to helping people succeed.
